Trying To Crack The Case
I've got 2 Powerbook G4s. One has a Superdrive that doesn't work. The other one is dead except it has a working SuperDrive. Thus, I tried to remove the SuperDrive from the dead one by taking out all the external screws I could find to remove the keyboard which sits above the SuperDrive. No luck. Couldn't even get the keyboard off. They used to have keyboards that you could pop up with a little switch. No more. Trying to make it difficult for you to work your mechanic skills on your hardware.
Also Emma's MacBook now makes it difficult for you to upgrade memory. Not fair.
RomDog no doubt knows how to do such things.
Notice The Shift
Now MSM is tilting for Billary to keep the story going. The Republicrats too are pushing for Billary cuz they know they can beat her. Even Obama's side in the form of Rev. Wright seems destined to sink him.
Everyone should know by now that Republicrats are way better at politics than most Dems. This is not to say they are better humans. They have people actually believing that the MSM has a Liberal bias and that is a bad thing. Some people even think the New York Times is a Liberal rag.

No Country For Old Men
Read the book and liked it as I do most Cormac McCarthy novels. Fell asleep the first time I watched the movie. Tried to watch it again last night, stayed awake this time and found it about as pointless and contrived as most Coen Bros. movies. Best Picture????? Don't think so by a county mile.

America

America I've given you all and now I'm nothing.
America two dollars and twenty-seven cents January 17, 1956.
I can't stand my own mind.
America when will we end the human war?
Go fuck yourself with your atom bomb
I don't feel good don't bother me.
I won't write my poem till I'm in my right mind.
America when will you be angelic?
When will you take off your clothes?
When will you look at yourself through the grave?
When will you be worthy of your million Trotskyites?
America why are your libraries full of tears?
America when will you send your eggs to India?
I'm sick of your insane demands.
When can I go into the supermarket and buy what I need with my good looks?
America after all it is you and I who are perfect not the next world.
Your machinery is too much for me.
You made me want to be a saint.
There must be some other way to settle this argument.
Burroughs is in Tangiers I don't think he'll come back it's sinister.
Are you being sinister or is this some form of practical joke?
I'm trying to come to the point.
I refuse to give up my obsession.
America stop pushing I know what I'm doing.
America the plum blossoms are falling.
I haven't read the newspapers for months, everyday somebody goes on trial for
murder.
America I feel sentimental about the Wobblies.
America I used to be a communist when I was a kid and I'm not sorry.
I smoke marijuana every chance I get.
I sit in my house for days on end and stare at the roses in the closet.
When I go to Chinatown I get drunk and never get laid.
My mind is made up there's going to be trouble.
You should have seen me reading Marx.
My psychoanalyst thinks I'm perfectly right.
I won't say the Lord's Prayer.
I have mystical visions and cosmic vibrations.
America I still haven't told you what you did to Uncle Max after he came over
from Russia.

I'm addressing you.
Are you going to let our emotional life be run by Time Magazine?
I'm obsessed by Time Magazine.
I read it every week.
Its cover stares at me every time I slink past the corner candystore.
I read it in the basement of the Berkeley Public Library.
It's always telling me about responsibility. Businessmen are serious. Movie
producers are serious. Everybody's serious but me.
It occurs to me that I am America.
I am talking to myself again.

Asia is rising against me.
I haven't got a chinaman's chance.
I'd better consider my national resources.
My national resources consist of two joints of marijuana millions of genitals
an unpublishable private literature that goes 1400 miles and hour and
twentyfivethousand mental institutions.
I say nothing about my prisons nor the millions of underpriviliged who live in
my flowerpots under the light of five hundred suns.
I have abolished the whorehouses of France, Tangiers is the next to go.
My ambition is to be President despite the fact that I'm a Catholic.

America how can I write a holy litany in your silly mood?
I will continue like Henry Ford my strophes are as individual as his
automobiles more so they're all different sexes
America I will sell you strophes $2500 apiece $500 down on your old strophe
America free Tom Mooney
America save the Spanish Loyalists
America Sacco & Vanzetti must not die
America I am the Scottsboro boys.
America when I was seven momma took me to Communist Cell meetings they
sold us garbanzos a handful per ticket a ticket costs a nickel and the
speeches were free everybody was angelic and sentimental about the
workers it was all so sincere you have no idea what a good thing the party
was in 1935 Scott Nearing was a grand old man a real mensch Mother
Bloor made me cry I once saw Israel Amter plain. Everybody must have
been a spy.
America you don're really want to go to war.
America it's them bad Russians.
Them Russians them Russians and them Chinamen. And them Russians.
The Russia wants to eat us alive. The Russia's power mad. She wants to take
our cars from out our garages.
Her wants to grab Chicago. Her needs a Red Reader's Digest. her wants our
auto plants in Siberia. Him big bureaucracy running our fillingstations.
That no good. Ugh. Him makes Indians learn read. Him need big black niggers.
Hah. Her make us all work sixteen hours a day. Help.
America this is quite serious.
America this is the impression I get from looking in the television set.
America is this correct?
I'd better get right down to the job.
It's true I don't want to join the Army or turn lathes in precision parts
factories, I'm nearsighted and psychopathic anyway.
America I'm putting my queer shoulder to the wheel.

Gerry Crimmins RIP 1940-2007 Just googled an old friend and discovered he has passed on. We went to art school @ MCAD and graduate school @ Pratt together; were next door neighbors at Pratt and he was Best Man at my first marriage. He later went on to teach at Moore College Of Art. I ran into him once at a CAA convention and he'd lost all his hair or at least gave up on keeping what he had. He developed his own Country; peopled it with lots of naked girls and wrote and illustrated a book about it. You can google him as G. Garfield Crimmins. I just ordered his book.
Condi Must Go

Concerned Christian

Dear Papa:
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God's Law. I have learned a great deal from you, and try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some other elements of God's Laws and how to follow them.
1. Leviticus 25:44 states that I may possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighboring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can't I own Canadians?

2. I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?

3. I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness Lev.15: 19-24. The problem is how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.

4. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odor for the Lord - Lev.1:9. The problem is, my neighbors. They claim the odor is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?

5. I have a neighbor who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself, or should I ask the police to do it?

6. A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an abomination - Lev. 11:10, it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don't agree. Can you settle this? Are there 'degrees' of abomination?

7. Lev. 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle-room here?

8. Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev. 19:27. How should they die?

9. I know from Lev. 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?

10. My uncle has a farm. He violates Lev. 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? - Lev. 24:10-16. Couldn't we just burn them to death at a private family affair, as we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)

I know you have studied these things extensively and thus enjoy considerable expertise in such matters, so I am confident you can help. Thank you again for reminding us that God's word is eternal and unchanging.

He will talk about photographers who have been crucial figures in the last decade of the struggle for independence struggle and the first decades after independence. Much of this material has not been in the public eye for decades and is a visual archive which has barely been studied. Sunil Janah, Margaret Bourke-White, Cecil Beaton, Kishor Parekh, William Gedney are some of the photographers he will focus on. Ram will show rare photos of Mahatma Gandhi, particularly those taken by Sunil Janah. His own pictures of Gandhi in the popular street idiom will also be featured.

are people going to realize how dumb McCain is, really. The Straight Talk Express is easy if you are not required to know what you are talking about. Saint John has admitted that he doesn't know much about foreign policy, nor economics. But he does have an abiding interest in warfare. Could this be because he never got to fight his war; being shot down and spending so many years in prison leaves a lot of pent-up rage.

Grandpa died last week

But everybody still talks about
How badly they were shocked.

And shot it full of holes.

It helps now that spring has sprung and it actually gets above 40 degrees.
I wish I still had my 20 acres in the country.

And Franco is still dead too.

Someone, no doubt trying to be helpful, signed me up at MatchCom. Now I get email samples twice a week of women seeking men 55-75. No thanks.

And, yes, you, we, are being screwed royally.
Gender-Racial Politics
So the Dems pick Obama/Clinton or Clinton/Obama and the Reps pick McCain/Rice. Who'd you pick. I'm betting the Reps would pull it off.
But McCain will no doubt pick another white man and still the Reps will win.
The Dems only hope is to pick Obama and another white man; Dodd?
Except he/she better not be gay.

Friends
My friend Jens Veneman, in addition to being an artist and chocolatier, has a new construction company and a web site. Go HERE.
His girl friend Gita Nandan is part of a design collective called Thread Collective. Go HERE.
Hip Hop v. Disco
I keep trying to appreciate (if not like, enjoy) Hip-Hop the way I sometimes was able to find a disco tune that I was able to listen to and even like. Say, an occasional song by Donna Summers. Some friends insist it can be good music. Music? I don't think so. I'm including Rap with my aversion to Hip-Hop; except for Eminem. I like Eminem. The rest of it must cause Jimi Hendriks and John Coltrane to roll over in their graves.
So last night I tried to listen to Mary J. Blige and Jay Z do a duet. Sorry. Include me out.

Freak Show
Never cared much for Oprah, and have never actually watched her show but this one tipped me over. A biological woman decides she is a man yet keeps her uterus (just in case) and is now pregnant via artificial insemination. Go HERE.

Still Worried
Saint John could still pick Rudy as veep, (or Mitt, or Huck) get elected and then... we're stuck again. I can't take 4 more years. I'm 66 this August.
MLK

Go HERE for John Legend on MLK.
40 years ago I was walking up the Gianicolo from the American Academy, heading for my morning caffe latte and pastry. Someone, maybe Jack Zajac, coming back from his caffiene said, "Heard the news?"
Photo is MLK Jr. with MLK III who later shook hands with James Earl Ray who claimed he wasn't the one.
The truth will out.
Today

50 years ago I was no doubt snoozing in study hall. Go HERE. And Go HERE.

Repeat
Just cuz I love the picture and I'm a momma's boy. And spring has sprung. It always reminds me of a short story by Irwin Shaw's called The Girls In Their Summer Dresses. Go HERE.
I used to remember it as a John O'Hara story but I just googled it and... nope. Irwin Shaw.

Quote Of The Day
"Senator and presumptive Republican Presidential nominee John McCain has rocked the political world by announcing his intention to bring his campaign to Nevada's Black Rock Desert this summer, during the counter-cultural art event known as Burning Man."
-- Burning Man website, April 1, 2008

MacDries says, "OK, I'm there. My old gal pal Terry and her husband go there and have encouraged me. It's the week of my b-day so why not."

Gore As Savior
I was for Gore way before I was against him. All this recent talk of a brokered convention and Gore coming out as the nominee is mere pish tosh. Wanna piss off a whole bunch of Obama/Clinton supporters to sit it out or even vote for St. John? Ain't gonna wash except in a Dem Death Wish scenario.

Quote Of The Day
"It was a beautiful thing to see -- because the moment a presidential candidate is forced to vow that he or she isn't quitting, you know they are toast." Go HERE.
Leopard 10.5.2
Sparkler is thrilled with the new Mac OSX but I'm finding it a bit buggy. It's taken me all day to re-install my main apps and set-up prefs but I always like to do a clean install. Almost done except for music. I can network my 20 gig library from the other Powerbook so I have 40 gigs on this one for more music.
Fools' Day
