The Next Worst Thing
Now that Rudy has dropped out we have to fear that McCain will pick him for veep and then die soon after he wipes the floor with Billary. Long time friends, don't poo-poo it.

1/29/08
Obama
I've settled and so has Sparkler. Kate can actually vote in Illinois but she's undecided yet.
Here's Dale

Today
Another grey day. Took a walk and now making a pot of beef stew. Sparkler is coming for dinner again after swimming. Then she claims the TV for One Tree Hill at 9.
Every election year the talk starts about a "brokered" convention and now it's Edwards who is supposed to be the broker/spoiler. Edwards for AG. Anyone remember the last brokered convention? Didn't think so.

Quote Of The Day
"Holding their nose, they're gonna have to take him."
-- Roberta McCain, 95-year-old mother of Sen. John McCain, on Republicans making her son their nominee
Clinton/Cruise/Bowie/Change Mash-up

Today
Sleeping a lot today, then took a walk and feel OK. Sparkler is coming for dinner: Baked chicken thighs and tiny taters.
Teddy has settled on Barak and so have I now that Edwards has crapped out. McCain will be our opponent and is the only one who could stomp Hillary into the bloody ground. I would hold my nose and vote for her but I'd rather go with Obama.
That's my choice and I'm sticking with it.

Today

Sparkler is here installing a copy of CS2 I scored for her in LA. What a treat to see her again. Djocovic won the Australian Open and thus begins a new season of speculation about whether Federer has lost his dominance. I'm betting no.
1st night in Austin we had great Mexican dinner. Best refried black beans and rice I've ever had. Also trout. Then we headed over to Ginny's Little Longhorn to catch bro Daryl's pal Dale Watson. Great show, lots of Merle and Ray Price in the air. Spotted one geezer who was the spittin' image of the Shrub, (all hat, no cattle) doing the two-step with all the young babes.
The other two days Daryl and I just sat around swapping lies about the old days.

Then on to LA. Gretchen is in fine form as usual and I wound up visiting old friends while she did a commercial gig. Cold and rainy every day until I left on Saturday. Lots of japanese food since Gretchen lives in Little Tokyo lofts. Also Chinese, Thai, Cuban and Italian. I'd never really seen how Gretchen lived before and was very impressed how organized and competent she is. Nice sense of design too.

Last night in town we had dinner at The Vegan Joint with a log-lost nephew Mark who I hadn't seen in 40 years. Not the best food in the world but good to see Mark. Looks like another blue-eyed Dries.
And now I'm home where it's freezing.

Today
I'm back. That's a good thing cuz I missed my Sparkler. More tomorrow. Federer got smashed but Maria wins again. Djocovic v. "Muhammed Ali" tomorrow.

1/20/08
LaLa Land
Made it to Gretchen's loft after bro Derb and I got it all settled in Texas. Cuban for lunch, Chinese tonight, lunch with Nana tomorrow.

Hillary's Message

Al Franken
Seriously funny.

On The Road Again
Off to Austin to see bro Daryl and Laverne. Then on to LA to see Gretchen and her new loft. Plus a few other friends if I can. Hate making dates.

The Executioner's Song
I'm re-reading Mailer's masterpiece for the 4th time and it still resonates. If you've never read it, do so. If you can't stand Mailer's persona, forget it. He is not in the book at all. I enjoy going to bed each night for a couple hours of reading and am shopping for another book to replace it when I'm done again.

The Other Night
It was lights out at 1:30pm and at 2:30 had a headache and couldn't sleep. I always have a headache these days but ignore them. I took a couple of codeine-Tylenol left-over from a dentist appoinment. I went to sleep about 3am and had one of those incredible dreams wherein I thought I was in The Twilight Zone yet knew I was just dreaming. Art & Erotica was fluid and fun. Space travel too. It went on with 2-3 trips to the water-hole and picked up again when I returned to bed. I finally got up around Noon and felt pretty good.
Sunny Day
Emma's here doing drafting homework. Listening to Beth Orton, who by the way has not come out with anything new in years.

Summer In January
61 and sunny and I'm not complaining.

1/7/08
Today
Crappy day, had to see my Pacemaker doc cuz I'm short of breath all the time. He adjusted it in ways I know nothing about but have yet to feel the benefits. Got a depressed brother who refuses to pick up the phone, indeed has turned off his answering machine. Refuses to be treated after 60 years of agorophobia and depression. I've done that when I didn't feel like talking to even my best friends. Warm January day at least. And so it goes.

Gretchen Says...
... her music taste comes from me. It's OK with me and I don't need to take any credit. All credit to the musicians. I just can't tolerate mediochre music in a world of so much quality. Die Dion, Bolton, Kenny G. Live on Billie, Delbert and Gato.

A Little Perspective
Look at the actual count of votes in Iowa. No one won but the MSM loves winners and more especially losers.

Iowa
I'm from there and all eyes are pointing that way. As we said back in the day: It's a great place to be from. Far from. Got an email, racist screed from one of the Sokol twins today warning of the dangers of electing the scary muslim Barak Muhammed Obama who attend a racist BLACK church. Luckily she now lives in Texas so won't be caucusing.

For What It's Worth
I would vote for Kuchinich if I had a chance and if he had a chance. Kuchinich has thrown his weight in Iowa towards Obama and now Nader is supporting Edwards which just may doom him. I'm still predicting Edwards will win Iowa.

Repeat
Just cuz I love the picture and I'm a momma's boy.
New Year
And the dread season is done. Start over. I'm gonna nap all day.
