The latest Urinal exibited as a Fountain in the art world is in the form of Anti-Graffiti. Go HERE.
As you may have noticed most public art is quite atrocious; begin with Calder, add Lichtenstein and end up with Jeff Koons. I liked graffiti on the beat-up old trains but don't like public advertising, billboards or the meaningless scribbling of tags sprayed, scrawled and scratched onto every surface imaginable. I once saw a bill board advertising billboards. It read: People Read Billboards. You Just Read This One.
I also hate the paranoid fear inducing audio everywhere that tells us "if you see something, say something".

Wisdom Comes With Age
A Florida couple, both well into their 80s, go to a sex therapist's office. The doctor asks, "What can I do for you?"
The man says, "Will you watch us have sexual intercourse?"
The doctor raises both eyebrows, but he is so amazed that such an elderly couple is asking for sexual advice that he agrees.
When the couple finishes, the doctor says, "There's absolutely nothing wrong with the way you have intercourse." He thanks them for coming, wishes them good luck, charges them $50 and says good bye.
The next week, the couple returns and asks the sex therapist to watch again. The sex therapist is a bit puzzled, but agrees.
This happens several weeks in a row. The couple makes an appointment, has intercourse with no problems, pays the doctor, then leave.
Finally, after 3 months of this routine, the doctor says, "I'm sorry, but I have to ask. Just what are you trying to find out?"
The man says, "We're not trying to find out anything. She's married and we can't go to her house. I'm married and we can't go to my house. The Holiday Inn charges $98. The Hilton charges $139. We do it here for $50, and I get $43 back from Medicare.

X-Y
I was raised in a poor yet not white trash enviroment. Thus I have many hangovers about spending money. I have arrived at a point in life when I can take a cab when I want but still take the subway. I can turn on the heat or the AC when I need to, yet still resist. Sometimes because I'm a stoic and sometimes just because I'm cheap. Many people are not either cheap or flush.
I'm now at the end game. I have enough money to get through this life and a bit more to pass on to my children. Not a lot but more than (the apocraphal) Willie Nelson, if he was sincere, when he said that he hoped the check to his undertker would bounce.
Anyway, lighten up about this world. Get through as well as you can. It's over soon enough.

Last chemo was today. Hoorraaayyyyy!!!  There were times when I thought this day would never come but it has, and it is done! Now it's on to the pills, which are much cheaper (cost me $12 for three months!).
I stopped at Bagel Boy this morning and took some bagels to the Infusion Center for all the nurses... they loved that, so I guess I did a good thing. Everyone asked if I was going to celebrate tonight.. but probably I won't. Maybe next week.
Thanks again to all of you for all the good wishes and prayers. I am certain they helped.

Pets In General
I am not a pet lover. However, I have a number of friends who have pets and I don't hold it against them as long as they don't insist on me recognizing them as equals or especially other people or surrogate children. Some pet lovers are quite normal and others are incredibly neurotic. I'm just not interested in them outside of their natural habitat, wherein I find them quite beautiful.
That said, you may have noticed I have a pet peeve in the extreme about Pit Bulls and the people who own them. They have been bred as fighting animals. And may be and are easily encouraged in that direction by feeding them small varieties of canine and cats. One of my friends sent me the following:

"Any dog, treated harshly or trained to attack, may bite a person. Any dog can be turned into a dangerous dog.

Any teenager, treated harshly or trained to attack, may kill a person. Any teenager can be turned into a dangerous teenager.

In the US from 1979 to 1996, 304 people in the US died from dog attacks.

In the US from 1979 to 1996, 6000 people in the US died from teenage attacks."

I can't verify his stats but I don't question them. What he says is true. As a child I was bit at least twice by unprovoked junk yard mutts which may explain my lack of interest in pets. I grew up in the country where dogs lived in doghouses and cats lived in the barn. Ditto with horses, cows, chickens etc. I was also once told by a pet owner who I love that perhaps I didn't truly love my youngest daughter because I did not want a pet in my house. I almost wrote that loved one off except I knew she meant well. I have the occasional mouse and I also try to kill them. A pidgeon flew in the open window the other day and I managed to hustle it out the window. Flies, I swat.

Don't Ask Or Tell Me
I understand that homosexuals have a rough row to hoe but I'm just tired of hearing about anyone's sexuality. Just as I've never enjoyed any hetero drunk bragging about his/her sexual conquests, I don't want to hear anything about pitchers & catchers, fems and butches. It's just not very interesting as conversation.
So to clear the air re: gay marriage or civil commitments, etc. Bottom line is I believe in equality. No hedges.
Marriage is two things: It is a legal contract (civil committment) to protect the finacial rights of each spouse and each child. It is also a religious ceremony sanctioned by various religions. The federal or state government has no right to deny anyone a license to enter into such legal contracts. Once the license is issued, any religious entity has perfect right to deny sanctioning to whomever they choose based on the "principles" of said "religion".
I remember the day when a Catholic could not marry a Lutheran, or Jew/Gentile (& vice-versa) in their respective churchs/synagogues. Not to mention that Catholics were not allowed to divorce but did have an escape clause called "annulment". Time to stop the hipocracy. Equalty trumps religion.
I read recently of the first Gay couple to file for disolution of their commitment. Join the club. I married twice, once in the church for 8 years and once in City Hall for 19. Both "marriages" are down the tubes as are the majority of yours. So what are you fighting for?
It's all rhetoric.

Got there early and got good seats. Old friend Andrea was there too so she joined us. While waiting a rain storm poured but it was a nice warm rain so we just got soaked and dealt with it. I twisted out my shirt and suffered with it. Some nice guy offered me an old t-shirt and I stupidly declined. An hour later the bogus warm-up band Ollabelle began and began and began and even did an encore. One of the chick singers was Amy Helm, daughter of Levon.
Then a 20 minute break while they set-up for RT. K&E were under an umbrella and had brought books to read so they were cool. Andrea didn't complain. Just as RT began his first song a second squall began and umbrellas and blankets went up everywhere, blocking the view to the stage. I gave up and left. The girls decided to stay. And I got soaked further in the few blocks to the subway. Everyone looked shocked to see someone get caught in the rain. And Indian guy kept stroking my sleeve, smiling and saying, "Rain. Rain." I said, yes, rain.

Next week is my last chemo... finally! Got to see the doctor today and then had the chemo. Labs were good so I didn't have to have a shot. Found out that I have to go back and see him in October ~ he wants to make sure that I don't have any bad effects from the Tamoxifen pills that I will be on. Now I'm debating if I should have the "port" removed now or wait until all of that is done. It really bugs me, because it rubs against the car seat belt and clothes. Guess I'll have to think about it.
Doc said normally he sees people every six months, but he wants to make sure I don't have an bad effects from the Tamoxifen... then I guess it will be every six months for five years. That isn't too bad. One bad thing for me is that because of the mastectomy I can only have blood draws, IVs, etc. from the left side and I'm thinking maybe my left arm might get a little sore. The port has been great for doing the labs and chemo IVs. A deep breath and it's over. Doc said a lot of people want to leave it in as a 'comfort' kind of thing... mine does stick out as bad as some people's, but it's still aggravating. I think it's because I have a bony collar bone area and they couldn't get it down in any further. I still might have the surgeon take it out maybe in July or August... don't want it there for when I go to the class reunion in September.
On a side note... Doc said maybe I'd meet one of my old classmates and fall in love again ~ I said "not hardly"... he said "you never know". I think he was trying to embarrass me.
I love all my classmates (well, nearly all of them) but we are all "like brothers and sisters". I think it's really unusual that a class from 50 years ago, has remained as close as we have. There for the past few years we have had class reunions every single year!! and we really enjoy each other's company.
Thanks for all your good wishes.

A driver is stuck in a traffic jam on US 95 south, just outside of Washington, DC.  Nothing is moving north or south. Suddenly a man knocks on his window. The driver rolls down his window and asks, "What happened? What's the holdup?"
"Terrorists have kidnapped President Bush, Vice President Cheney, Bill O'Reilly, Rush Limbaugh, and Anne Coulter. They are demanding a $100 million ransom. Otherwise, they are going to douse them with gasoline and set them on fire. We are going from car to car, taking up a collection."
"On average, how much is everyone giving?" asks the driver.
"About a gallon."
Our Humility
"For all our conceits about being the center of the universe, we live in a routine planet of a humdrum star stuck away in an obscure corner ... on an unexceptional galaxy which is one of about 100 billion galaxies. ... That is the fundamental fact of the universe we inhabit, and it is very good for us to understand that."

Moral Absolutes
"The man has not read enough books to have developed moral sense. It's the uneducated and the undereducated who speak in moral absolutes. The fewer books you read, the easier it is to become fundamentalist. I'm not going to listen to a president who only reads one book. In some ways, my anti-war stand is also a stand on anti-illiteracy. Someone should get W Bush into a reading program, get him to join a book club, have him read Hamlet, King Lear... A vast illiteracy permeates the Bush White House."
Sherman Alexie, Native American Poet
Abuse v. Torture
"Could you tell us what happened?" Wolfowitz asked. Someone else asked, "Is it abuse or torture?" At that point, Taguba recalled, "I described a naked detainee lying on the wet floor, handcuffed, with an interrogator shoving things up his rectum, and said, 'That's not abuse. That's torture'. There was quiet." Go HERE.
Pedophilia
Are we still human?
"When my husband was a boy in a farming town, the farmers caught a rapist of little girls, in action. Their justice? They took him to an old barn, nailed his private part to a center support, set the barn on fire, then gave him a knife, and said if he wanted to live he could cut that offending part off. The man died there, his part was more important than to cut it off to live. It is not murder if that man chooses death over loosing his favorite part. Hey, what's wrong with doing that now ???? We can take them out of society, but they all have one last judge to face, and they certainly will NOT pass through those gates. Eternal hell is the only answer."

Quote Of The Day
"Every gun that is made, every warship that is launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold, and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children....This is not a way of life at all in any true sense. Under the cloud of war, it is humanity hanging on a cross of iron."

During a visit to the mental asylum, a visitor asked the Director what the criterion was which defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub, then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," said the visitor. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup."
"No" said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want a bed near the window?"

The diff turned out to be: they were not soft shell. I looked too quickly.

Change Of Plans
I was heading over to Jubilee to score a couple Soft Shell Crabs when I spotted my ex-Ann a few yards ahead of me with her shopping cart. Of course I had cancel my plans. She had a new haircut and still looked beautiful. Just as well; don't think the crabs would taste very good paired with salty tears.

As expected the French Open boils down to Roger & Raphael on Sunday. Check your local listings. It ought to be classic. And I'm there.

Friends checking in about my finger pain and possible surgery. Thanks for the concern but they seem more worried than I am. It's very minor surgery, out-patient and one hand at a time. Also reports that one of the meds I take for my diabetes has heart problems associated with it. So it's back to my Endocrinologist for info. So it goes. Ain't life grand.

Oh puke. Therapists are know to be big fans of the show based on Dr. Mehlfi. Loraine Bracco is probably the worst actress in the world and each show demonstrates why I can never take Psychiatry seriously. Go HERE.

Had my EMG & NCS tests today; a lot of electro shocks and needles sticking in me after waiting an hour past my appointment. Really sweet technician named Marisol and then my original Orthopedist who sent me to the Rheumatologist who sent me to the surgeon. Result: Looks like a "minor carpal tunnel or neuropathy".
Back next week to see if I need surgery or just plug on with the pain.

After the debates it seems clear each team has some viable (if not acceptable) candidates. Dems have Edwards, Obama, Clinton & Richardson with Gore waiting in the wings. Reps have Romney, Guiliani & McCain and a bunch of "who are theys".
Each have a straight talking wacko: Ron Paul for the Reps. Mike Gravel for the Dems. The Dems also have Kucinich (net worth- $32,000) who can't get taken seriously even though he is very smart.

Rumour going round is that Lynne Cheney will be the fill-in Senator to replace the departed Reprobate Senator from Wyoming. The thinking is: Democratic Gov. Freudenthal gets to pick from 3 choices provided by GOPers. Freudenthal will run in 2008 in the special election against the fill-in so he will choose the hated Miz Cheney.

Only good thing is, it's all in the nabes and this guy finally seems to know what he's doing.

"At the end of the day, I believe fully the president is doing the right thing, and I think all we need is some attacks on American soil like we had on [Sept. 11, 2001] and the naysayers will come around very quickly to appreciate not only the commitment for President Bush, but the sacrifice that has been made by men and women to protect this country."

There is a short story by Richard Wright I read in college wherein a generally disgruntled hash cook in a diner is observed hocking up some plegm and spitting it into the soup by two of his underlings. A Female Prez?
Lots of new problems will evolve if America decides to elect a woman President. First one is: Males always wear dark suits and ties on formal occasions. Even a tux from time to time. What's a girl to do?
Journalists will have to adjust their prose to account for what the Prez has chosen to wear that day and how it reflects her thinking, etc. I'm not kidding.

Another Month Shot To Hell

Cheney/Bush are still in office. So is Gonzo but at least Wolfie has his reparations for being mistreated. The war shows no sign of ending in my lifetime. 1000 more Americans dead sinced last Memorial Day. Not to mention Iraqis, Sunni, Shia Kurds, Muslim & Arabs. Who knows how many are suffering wounds in various ill-equipped hospitals. How many families trying to figure out what it is all about. A few still think it is all worth it.
What is the point of hatred? Is there one person in the world who feels good about the situation?
I'm still depressed as hell and if you are not, you are not paying attention.
