About noon I was sitting on the steps of the Minneapolis School of Art, ready to go to lunch. Dean Walter McDonough walked by crying, he stopped and told us school was cancelled for the day.
9-11 didn't affect me as much as that day.

Black Friday
I'm told today is the biggest shopping day of the year. Thus I am not going to buy anything today. If I can. I'm pretty sure I won't sell anything.

It's getting time to freshen up and go around the corner to Zette's for the fowl-out feast. We miss Ram about this time of year.
A Bob Dylan Day
Been listening to later Bob today, Modern times & the underrated Saved etc. Friends have been wrongfully assuming I will welcome the new film I'm Not There . Not so. Sounds bogus to me.
However Kate is having her posse over for dinner tommorow and would prefer it if I made myself absent for a few hours. So I may break down or I may go see No Country For Old Men because I love Cormac McCarthy even if I'm not a fan of The Coen Bros.
I'm currently re-reading The Road and it's better, more subtle the 2nd time. Seems you have to pare yourself down to read it.

Yum yum, eat 'em up. That's a joke. I actually don't like turkey and agitated each year to do Duck or Cornish Game Hens or even Chicken. I lost even though Kate thought Duck would be dee-licious.

Believe It!
The U.S. Military is demanding that thousands of wounded service personnel give back signing bonuses because they are unable to serve out their commitments. To get people to sign up, the military gives enlistment bonuses up to $30,000 in some cases. Now men and women who have lost arms, legs, eyesight, hearing and can no longer serve are being ordered to pay some of that money back. Go HERE .

Dee Wants To Know
"So, what's your opinion of the Coen Bros' body of work? [Raising Arizona - Miller's Crossing - Blood Simple - The Hudsucker Proxy - Barton Fink - Fargo - Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou - The Man Who Wasn't There - The Big Lebowski - No Country for Old Men]
Out of these, I'd say 5 are among my favorite movies. I saw No Country for Old Men last night and found the feeling remarkably true to the book. Excellent acting by all involved. It was funny as well, I think a hard thing to pull off with a spare, tense plot. I'd like to hear your thoughts, Danny".
MacDries says, "I guess I've seen all of those except for the latest and have to say, sorry, not a big fan. Fargo was anusing. Blood Simple was awful. The Hudsucker Proxy was OK mainly due to Paul Newman. The rest I really can't remember what they were about. Oh, yeah, Oh Brother was a rip-off of Sullivan's Travels. Gretchen says they have a rep in Hollywood for being great to work with.
In My Dreams
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were staying overnight with all of us, (Ann, Kate Emma and me) in my old house back in Sibley, IA. Mattresses everywhere. Angelina didn't seem to mind too much when I accidently tried to crawl into bed with her. Don't know where Brad was but Emma was making the rounds. In fact Angie liked the place so much she invited herself to live with us while she shot her next film in Camden (MA)?
I told her it was a long commute but she didn't mind. "I have a driver," she said.

Nixon/Kissinger
Finally finished the very long and sometimes tedious tome. The upshot is a clear picture of what we all suspected: a couple of twisted souls using each other for dual purposes. The cynical ambition is everywhere and the finale is gratifying. The irony of Kissinger winning a Nobel Peace Prize instead of being in jail for war crimes is classic. Unlike our current predicament, all's well that ends well. Nixon/Kissinger, Leopold/Loeb, Bonnie/Clyde, Bush/Cheney, the litany of co-dependancy is endless.

Quote Of The Day
"Listen I am not interested if the majority of people in Iraq want a new government or not, what I am interested in is starting something that you can't finish... I'm worried, that we are starting something that we can't finish without changing the nature of American democracy by the time we are done,"

My Weekend
If you've never had the pleasure of a tear in your esophagus, don't bother. It's not worth the trouble. I developed one and early Friday morning it came back to haunt me like a scene from The Exorcist. The tear bleeds into your stomach and blackened blood comes spewing out in the middle of the night. A fine mess is left all over the bathroom far beyond the confines of the sink or commode. By this time you have lost enough blood to make walking problematic. You will require assistance to get thee to the ER. If you do so you will not die which was my case. My landlord called for me since I was too busy trying to faint from loss of blood.
At the ER they will ask you to swallow a tube through your nose. You get the picture that this is not pleasant. After a couple hours your stomach is drained and you proceed to Doctor Endoscopy who thankfully puts you to sleep while she peruses the inside of your throat and stomach. Stomach empty she will find the tear and put a clip on it to stop the bleeding. If she is successful, you will then be starved for two days until it is determined that the bleeding has stopped. Another day on liquid diet; broth, jell-o, tea. Blood tests twice a day, IV twice a day with medication called Protinex. Vital signs every few hours.
I could go on... but I won't. Emma brought me the Sunday Times which I read word for word.
Back home now and the new Neil Young was in the mail; which is excellent.
